Green Lake Litter Patrol 8-19-12

It was a great week for Green Lake Litter Patrol starting with the wonderful article in the Seattle Times written by Nicole Brodeur. Today Green Lake park was a mess and it took every bit of our 3 hours to get things back in shape. We even borrowed a boat from Green Lake Boat Rental to clean up the inlet next to the boat rental area. Thanks Nicole Birgh- manager. Peet’s Coffee and Tea set us up with cold drinks. Thanks Peet’s!! We really need your help people. We picked up over 19 bags of litter today. Please come and join us!

Green Lake Litter Patrol 8-12-12

We had another splendid day and good group for our Green Lake Litter Patrol. In all we picked up 19 full bags of litter consisting of beer bottles and cans, clothing, and every type of plastic container made. Nicole Brodeur from the Seattle Times joined us for an up close look at the litter problem at Green Lake. We want to thank her for her valuable time. Peet’s Coffe and Tea treated us to complimentary drinks which is always much appreciated. Special thanks to Gene, Lori, Sherri and Becky for their spirit and effort.

Green Lake Litter Patrol 8-5-12

We could have not asked for a prettier day to be out at Green Lake for our litter patrol. Another great turn out: Gene, Cindy, Sherri, Issa, Lori, Dan & Todd. Between us we picked up 21 bags of litter. Peet’s Coffee & Tea was supportive supplying cold drinks which were much appreciated. We also had another collaborative meeting with Seattle Parks & Recreation this week. They are really behind our community service project and are as excited as we are to help us grow. Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-29-12

We had a splendid time today doing our Litter Patrol around Green Lake. Issariya (Issa) Sirichakwal & Lian Zhou stopped me in the parking lot and volunteered on the spot to join Greg Mahar, Gene Counts and myself for todays patrol. Issa & Lian are absolutely awesome for jumping right in and spending the morning cleaning up around the park filling up numerous litter bags. Sarah Armstrong-Manager of Green Lake Peet’s Coffee & Tea gave us a nice break and provided us a complimentary cold drinks. Come on out and join us. We have the tools and disposal.

Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-22-12

It was another fabulous day for a Green Lake Litter Patrol. Lori Lizotte, Jeff Ewing and Sherri Dickson joined in for a terrific 11 garbage bag effort. Sarah Armstrong- Manager- of Peet’s Coffee & Tea- Green Lake store found us on the EveryBlock blog site and offered to provide us with a free coffee. Peet’s was so gracious to take good care of our hard working crew. Come join us any Sunday!

Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-15-12

I took this picture today while doing our weekly litter patrol around Green Lake Park. For full disclosure: I did not write this sign but I have thought this thought many times while picking up little. Most of the people who fish around the lake leave a tremendous amount of litter while trampling the shoreline vegetation. I know that the people this sign is meant for are not reading my blog or visiting our website. I hope this picture brought a smile. We hope that one day this sign is not needed. Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-8-12

What a beautiful day we had for our Green Lake Litter Patrol. Lori Lizotte brought her two children Jackson & Allie. We were also joined by our friend Dan who lives next to the park. With sunny days and the 4th of July this past Wednesday the park had more litter than usual. Luckily we had a great crew out today. We want to thank Seattle Parks and Recreation for supplying our new volunteer vests. Please come out and join us!

Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-1-12

It was rainy start but dry finish for our July 1st, 2012 litter patrol. We had a new patroller, Sherrie Dixon, LMT who found us on the Everyblock.com site. Sherrie was absolutely awesome to show up in the rain for her first patrol and brought a sunny smile. You should check her out for your therapeutic massage needs. Lori Lizotte, from ADP came out again with her tremendous enthusiasm and support for Green Lake Litter Patrol. Together we picked up a solid 8 full bags of litter! Green Lake Litter Patrol 6-24-12

It turned out to be an outstanding day out at Green Lake today for our Litter Patrol. Gene and Lori showed up and helped pick up 6 bags of litter. There was a lot activity today with the Fire Department doing water search and rescue. There was also an event with people swimming across the lake and back in a timed competition. We are so lucky to have this great park in Seattle that offers so many recreation options. Please come and join us to keep our park litter free!

Happy Fathers Day from all of us at Green Lake Litter Patrol. It was a splendid day out at Green Lake. Our crew picked up 7 bags of litter and lots of litter created by the people who fish along the lake. The fishing line and hooks are a menace to the ducks and squirrels that live around the water. It was so much fun to have Steve and his daughters Olivia & Keira join us for Litter Patrol this week. I love having children participating and learning that litter is bad for our parks. They worked so hard to find every little piece of litter that was out there on the grounds. Jeff also showed up this week. He has been a die hard litter patrol advocate and deserves much thanks too! Green Lake Litter Patrol 5-27-12

I had 2 great volunteers for this Memorial Day weekend Litter Patrol. Jodi visiting from Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Lisa her childhood friend from Cincinnati, Ohio who has lived in Seattle for 30 years. I went to high school with Jodi and have not seen her since graduation. As a team we picked up 7 full bags of litter. We had a super time walking Green Lake picking up litter and catching up on old times. Come and join us!
