Green Lake Litter Patrol 11-11-12

We had 3 patrollers today but picked up 9 full bags of litter. There were some sporadic sprinkles but the hard rain held off. I am proud to report that this year the volunteers of Green Lake Litter Patrol have put in over a 1000 hours of service at Green Lake Park. I am so incredibly honored and grateful that we have so many committed volunteers. Today I want to thank Fortuna & Jud for their outstanding effort. Please come out and join us any Sunday!

We had a great group of 10 volunteers today for a very productive litter patrol around Green Lake Park. It is amazing that we are still picking up 2-3 bags of litter a piece as we circle the lake. Peet’s Coffee & Tea is always so gracious to supply us with a hot cup of coffee as we pass by their store. Please come and join us!

It was an exciting day at Green Lake with a Halloween Fun Run for grown ups and kids. Lots of fun costumes. We had a strong group of 7 volunteers jump in and picked up 10 full litter bags. I was walking and saw a smoker drop a cigarette on the trail and stamp it out.  It was great to stop him, tell him he was littering and have him pick up his butt. Cigarette butt litter is probably the most pervasive form of litter we pick up around the park. Please spread the word about cigarette butts being litter. Thanks!

We had 14 hearty litter patrollers out today at Green Lake for a very productive patrol. I am so proud of these amazing volunteers who show up regardless of the weather forecast. It was chilly  but the rains held off again for us.  Peet’s Coffee and Tea warmed us up with a complimentary cup of coffee. The Sun even peeked through the clouds a few times too! Please come and join us this Fall as we really give Green Lake Park a good deep cleaning. We picked up 22 full bags today!

Labor Day weekend Litter Patrol was a great success with the help of Calvin, Stewart, Lori, Dianna, Sergei & Todd. We picked up close to 16 bags of litter. We had a newcomer Dianna Marshall who found us on Everyblock. The neighborhood blog that took over the My Green Lake blog. She jumped right in and did put out a tremendous effort today! Thanks Dianna!  As Summer starts to fade the amount of litter will decline but we still will find plenty to pick up even in the rainy months.

Thanks again to Peets’s Coffee & Tea for providing Green Lake Litter Patrol a nice complimentary drink for our efforts. Thanks guys!! Come on out & join us!

Green Lake was full of life today with boat races, runners and walkers filling the park. We had a great crew of patrollers: Gene, Sherrie, Calvin, Stewart, Lian, Sergei & Todd on hand working hard picking up litter. Calvin and Stewart are high school students who saw the newspaper article by Nicole Brodeur and showed up. It was awesome to have these fine young men join in today. We encourage young people to get involved in community service.  Come & join us any Sunday!!
