Green Lake Litter Patrol 7-28-13

Green Lake Park was a buzz of activity on Sunday for our Litter Patrol. We had a strong group of 9 patrollers out for a very productive hike around the lake edge and grounds. The volunteers commenting on how much litter had accumulated in a weeks time. I had a nice chat with Clark Gray from Green Lake Boathouse Coffee Shop & Boat Rental about his support of Green Lake Litter Patrol. Each week he supplies our crew with a beverage when we pass by his shop. Many thanks to his terrific staff. Please come on out and join us any Sunday! Thanks..

The amount of visitors to Green Lake Park has increased with the Summer weather and so has the amount of litter we have been picking up. The consensus among the Green Lake Litter Patroller’s is that this is the dirtiest they have witnessed around the park grounds. Cigarette butt litter is still the most pervasive item around the grounds. Our exceptional crew of volunteers made a great effort today. Do come and join us for a litter patrol any week.  Thanks so much!

We had a stellar group for our 2nd year anniversary of Green Lake Litter Patrol.  Our heartfelt thanks go out to Issa Sirichakwal who has participated in over 50 patrols. He has been an inspiration to us all. He has taken a teaching position in Chicago. All the best to our dear friend! We need volunteers to join us at Green Lake for our Sunday Litter Patrols. To date we have completed over 60 patrols and put in  over 2500 volunteer hours. Cheers!

Our litter patrol at Green Lake today was needed after a long Holiday weekend. Our vigilant crew picked up multiple bags of litter per person. We had a solid crew of 9 pickers out today. It is always interesting to talk to the first time patrollers and hear how much they enjoy the experience. But are also surprised at the amount of litter around the park. Please come and join us next week for our second anniversary patrol. Thanks so much!

Green Lake Litter Patrol had another exceptional work party around the park. We had a vibrant crew of 12 patrollers pick up over 20 bags of litter. Gene, Danielle and Todd went on to clean the roadside of HWY 99 that splits Woodland Park. So much trash along the sidewalk and fence line for another 6 bags of litter. There is a real need for volunteers to help keep our parks clean and litter free. Please come out and join us! Thanks

We had a small group of 4 today for our litter patrol at Green Lake Park. A Ballard High School student named Owen joined Issa, Conner & Todd for a very productive outing around the lake. Bags fulls of micro litter and a garage can fished from the lake. The highlight was seeing a flock of Canadien Geese with their babies strolling along the beach. Also checking out a large group of kayak racers out on the lake. Good stuff!  Please come and join us any Sunday for a litter patrol.

It was a rainy start for Green Lake Litter Patrol on Memorial Day weekend but out spirits were not dampened. A solid crew of 10 showed up for a very productive work party. We all picked up a bag full of what I call “micro litter”. My rant for the week was finding a dozen or more cigarette butts in the children’s play area under the jungle gyms & swings. Kind of disheartening to think about small children crawling around on nasty cigarette butts. We are so proud that all in all the park looks and feels so much cleaner than it did a year ago. Thanks to all the patrollers that have devoted so much hard work for the betterment of Green Lake Park. Cheers..

We had an outstanding group of 20 out for this weeks litter patrol. A big group from UW-Sigma Nu- Fraternity & North Seattle Community College-Communications Students. Plus our regular group of volunteers. I have to say that the park feels so much cleaner than a year ago. The fishermen are taking much better care around the edge of the lake too. Green Lake Litter Patrol sponsored by SellsMoreHomes.com is happy to report this news. If we all put in some community service time -we can make a difference in our city & neighborhoods. Jump on in and give us a hand any Sunday. Thanks!

We had an amazing crew of 36 litter patrollers out today at Green Lake Park. They brought incredible energy to our community service project picking up lots of what we call “micro litter”. From hundreds of cigarette butts, pieces of plastic and general litter. They picked up at least 6 bags of litter from along the edge of the lake. Thanks to Seattle University -MBA program & UW Environmental Science Students. Special thanks to Issa & Conner fo helping me organize the crew. Please come out and join any Sunday. Together we are making a difference.
